Within Diagnostics Finance for Global Operations, Sites and Q&R you act as the Financial Business Partner for Global Capital Investment and Real Estate Diagnostics. This department is responsible for 8 scope areas including capital investments of the Diagnostics Division, divisional Facility Management and Real Estate processes, and Environmental Sustainability worldwide.
The Position
As the Global Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) Controller, you ensure that capital is invested wisely in the best interest of the division.
Purpose of the role is to drive the annual target setting and performance tracking, business planning, forecasting and project approval process for Engineering, Facility and Real Estate projects by providing governance. In addition, you provide timely and high-quality financial business and performance information, enabling the achievement of short, mid and long term financial and business objectives.
While familiar with the 'engineering language', you will be able to challenge established processes from a different angle and partner with both Finance and Engineering/Facility Management. Your main contact partners will be the Global Head of Capital Investment and Real Estate, portfolio managers for capital investment, the respective site functions, the Investment Committee, the Engineering Council, and Divisional and Group Finance.
Your main responsibilities:
Analyze, interpret and improve forecasting quality in order to assess the project progress and financial performance. In addition, you will improve the efficiency, quality and transparency of the CAPEX reporting and budgeting process
Collaborate with Project Controls Engineers, Project Managers, Site Functions and Finance, to increase capabilities
Lead and support the Diagnostics CAPEX Finance and Governance processes through coordination, consolidation, analysis and reporting. You will ensure a robust and efficient governance process in compliance with Roche policies
Improve, support and maintain the Diagnostics Investment Committee governance and credit application IT tool
Prepare, analyze and challenge the business cases related to the credit applications
Active participation in consolidation and verification of data at reporting events

Provided local regulations allow this, the position can be set up as a part-time opportunity (24-40 hours/week). We also provide flexible working models including working from home opportunities.
This position can be located in one of the main Diagnostics locations, like Basel or Rotkreuz in Switzerland, Indianapolis or Santa Clara in the USA, Suzhou in China, Mannheim or Penzberg in Germany, or in Singapore.
Who you are
You bring operational experience on the interface between Controlling and Project Management. You are a 'facilitator' capable of identifying and implementing improvements in a collaborative way. As a trusted team player you act in an agile environment and enrich our team with your skills and ideas. You are curious, enjoy testing new insights, do things differently and bring the best ideas to life, fast and effective. You thrive working in networks beyond structures and hierarchies.
You have a University degree or equivalent in Engineering or an engineering-related field, Finance, or Controlling / Business Administration. You bring 5-8 years of working experience in an international environment in the area of large capital investment projects, preferably in project management, project controls or CAPEX controlling, while closely working together with Engineering.
In addition, you bring the following skills and proficiencies:
Strong analytical skills and quick perception
Good understanding of value-adding activities, large CAPEX project success factors, management reporting/project controls. You have preferably led mid- to large sized Engineering projects (certified PMI or equivalent Project Management certification is a plus)
Sound knowledge of reporting tools, advanced in calculation tools (Excel/gSheets)
Strong interpersonal and influencing skills; demonstrated excellence in relationship building and partnering at all levels within an organization, with a strong focus on facilitating and empowering, coaching and mentoring others
Advocate and role model agile leadership and new ways of working. You have an agile mindset and display the corresponding culture and behaviours, mobilizing the organization toward that ambition
Self-starter attitude and independent working style. You have a strong sense of and desire for continuous improvement e.g. by sharing best practices
Proficient in English, ideally also in German
