About the Role
This role is a crucial hire for the Principal Investments and Acquisitions (PI&A) team and the incoming individual will join a high calibre, entrepreneurial team. It must be someone who can support and lead on their investments in Sub-Saharan Africa across the full lifecycle, including the sourcing deals, managing mid-cycle performance and ongoing advice through to successful exit. A strong strategic advisory and M&A skillset is a prerequisite.
The role requires a collaborative approach. The successful candidate will need to be able to ‘roll up their sleeves’ and be a true teammate.
Additionally, the opportunity is to:
Drive the success of selected investments by developing relationships with key parties, potentially serving as a board member or observer, monitoring ongoing performance, identifying and pursuing value creation efforts/knowledge transfer efforts, maintaining a team view whether to pursue liquidity and monitoring/developing exit alternatives.
Develop a network of relationships across the Sub-Saharan Africa region and within the firm, as well as a familiarity with relevant trends that enhance your ability to identify, evaluate and structure investment and acquisition opportunities that fit PI&A's mandate.
Play a leading role in identifying and analysing investment and acquisition opportunities across the Sub-Saharan Africa region, including fit within mandate/strategy, financial modelling, valuation and risk/return.
Own the execution of PI&A transactions while working in partnership with external parties, Swiss Re colleagues and external advisors, while being accountable to the PI&A EMEA Head.
Guide the preparation of materials that enable efficient executive monitoring and decision-making (e.g. PI&A Investment Committee and Group Executive).
Help to train, develop and mentor junior investment professionals.
Contribute on various other tasks as required to support the team.
About the Team
PI&A EMEA is looking for a senior team member to play a leading role in developing investments across the Sub-Saharan Africa portfolio of companies and in identifying strategic opportunities. S/he will be a member of the Zurich team and be supported by a small, highly skilled team of professionals based in Zurich and London and will report to the EMEA Regional Head of PI&A.
Minimum seven to 10 years of relevant full-time work experience in either corporate transactions/M&A, insurance/reinsurance or investments and possess a commercial mentality with strong financial acumen.
Ability to work with a high degree of independence and excellent judgement.
EQ and presence required to lead transactions with senior executives and board members of investee companies, external advisors, Swiss Re leadership and cross-functional teams.
Excellent communication skills and ability to distil complex transaction details into concise, decision-ready briefings (oral, email, written presentations).
Be a great team member, able to work within a corporate environment, partner transparently with colleagues on transactions and fit in with other members of the PI&A EMEA team.
Undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics or a related field and/or MBA preferred.
Strong leadership characteristics and a good strategic problem solver.
Cultural experience in Sub-Saharan Africa region preferred.

French language fluency preferable but not a prerequisite.
