Type of Work: Full-time employee
About the Company
Axon VIBE is a location-based contextual platform that detects and predicts human behavior. It was founded in 2014 by location technology veterans (Google Maps, Endoxon, Multimap) and has assembled a 100-strong team of software engineers, machine learning experts, designers and product visionaries.
Axon VIBE is working with forward thinking transportation operators and agencies across the world such as MTA New York, Deutsche Bahn and Swiss Federal Railways, and provides the technology powering mobile applications to help reduce friction and deliver moments of serendipity without compromising users’ trust. We deliver seamless guidance for customers on public transport and combined mobility to jointly tackle the urban challenges of congestion, pollution and limited space, and thereby contribute to a more sustainable future for Smart Cities.
We operate as a start-up and we have exciting growth plans. Our team embodies innovation, curiosity, trust and fun. Together we are working on the next generation mobility solutions. We are headquartered in Lucerne and offer exciting career opportunities across all our offices, which also include London, Norwich, New York City and Hong Kong.
About the Role
We are looking for a Software Engineer in Data Science to join the Axon VIBE Product team. You will be joining a globally distributed team from our headquarters in Switzerland or one of our locations in the UK.
The Axon VIBE platform core capability is collecting real-world sensor data from mobile devices in a battery efficient manner. Throughout our analytics stack, raw sensor data turns into insights and predictions. Besides sensor data, there are numerous other data sources, such as transactional data and user input, that get combined with behavior-based data. Your job is to engineer solutions that create insights and predictions for use in powerful, real-time consumer behavior data products.
User privacy is critically important to our company, as part of the role it is expected that all team members adhere to our policies and generally advocate for user data protection.
We offer you these challenging tasks in an innovative and game-changing environment. Our teams are globally distributed, and our organizational structure is flat. You will have a high level of autonomy in your work.
We use JIRA, Slack, Zoom, and try not to use email. We are constantly iterating and improving and are open to new tech, new approaches and processes.
In this role you will have a direct impact on shaping the future of mobility. You will:
Develop new solutions and concepts that allow us to provide users with contextual, personalized and pro-active travel assistance.
Work with a continuously growing dataset of real-world mobility behavior and find the models and algorithms that allow our Smart Mobility Platform to identify patterns and make predictions.
Build frameworks that allow you and your team to measure the quality of predictions and make data driven decisions.
Continuously improve the algorithms that power the core features of our platform.
The person we’re looking for is enthusiastic, keen to learn, passionate about software engineering and data science, delivery driven, a great communicator and creative problem solver.
You must be highly collaborative, hard-working and happy to roll up your sleeves, when the going gets tough. Although we are ~100 people globally, we are all in the same team, you must be confident and generous in sharing your own knowledge and ideas.
Strong SQL skills, ideally familiar with PostgreSQL and PostGIS
Proven track record in professional software engineering with modern development languages such as Java and Python.
Experience with Machine Learning and feature engineering.
Experience building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures, data sets and ETL processes.
Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable big data stores.
Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
Experience with AWS cloud services a plus: EC2, EMR, RDS and Redshift
Experience performing root cause analysis on internal and external data and processes to answer specific business questions and identify opportunities for improvement.
Keen on diving into academic papers and the latest research to guide your decisions
Bring your great attitude, along with your engineering skills and let’s see what we can achieve together. Please send your cover letter and cv (written in English) to: email@example.com
We will not consider applications submitted by a recruitment agency. Candidates must get in touch with us directly.
We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
