The (Senior) Manager Marketing & Fundraising Communication will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the Foundation’s global marketing, communications, and donor engagement strategy.
This position has a strong focus on fundraising communications, including the development of compelling narratives, digital campaigns, stewardship materials, and strategic content that inspires individuals, corporations, and foundations to invest in Scouting’s global impact.
The ideal candidate is a strategic storyteller and results-driven communicator with experience in philanthropy, partnerships, and brand management within an international context.

Role Overview
The (Senior) Manager Marketing & Fundraising Communication is responsible for developing and implementing effective marketing strategies and communication plans to enhance brand visibility, drive engagement, and maximise fundraising outcomes. This role owns the WSF brand, messaging, and media presence, delivering integrated campaigns that directly support fundraising programmes and donor recognition, while also supporting donor acquisition in close cooperation with the Director of Philanthropy and other colleagues.
The (Senior) Manager Marketing & Fundraising Communication works in close partnership with the Manager Digital Engagement, the Director of Philanthropy, and other colleagues. This collaboration ensures that all marketing and communication initiatives are aligned with fundraising objectives, and that digital and traditional channels are leveraged to engage, steward, and grow the Foundation’s supporter base.
The role also ensures alignment with the communications and fundraising strategies of WOSM, reinforcing a unified global message and clarity of roles between WSF and WOSM.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement an integrated marketing and communication strategy, aligned with the Foundation’s fundraising and engagement goals and monitor their effectiveness.
- Strengthen the Foundation’s brand and visibility globally, ensuring consistent messaging and high-quality content across all channels.
- Support the Foundation’s leadership and fundraising colleagues with communications advice, key messages, and strategic positioning.
- In collaboration with the Director of Philanthropy, support the work of the Fundraising & Marketing Board Sub-committee.
Fundraising & Donor Communications
- Design and deliver fundraising communication campaigns (digital and traditional) targeting major donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
- Create compelling donor materials, including proposals, impact reports, presentations, newsletters, and case statements.
- In close cooperation with the Manager Digital Engagement, develop and manage donor journeys, storytelling frameworks, and stewardship tools to enhance donor engagement and retention.
- In the future, responsibilities for specific fundraising-related activities can be added to this role.
- Collaborate with fundraising colleagues to align communications with donor priorities and Foundation initiatives.
Content & Brand Management
- Oversee all Foundation communication channels, including the website, social media, email marketing, and printed publications.
- Lead the production of inspiring content — stories, videos, and visuals — showcasing the global impact of Scouting.
- Ensure brand coherence and alignment with WOSM’s visual identity and communication standards.
- Oversee the further development of a joint (WSF & WOSM) branding specifically for fundraising purposes.
Media & Stakeholder Relations
- Manage media relations and external communications to elevate the Foundation’s public profile.
- Support the Foundation’s participation in major events, donor gatherings, and Scouting celebrations with high-quality communication materials.
Digital Engagement Oversight
- Lead website, social media, email journeys, and the Scout Donation Platform with the Manager Digital Engagement, ensuring all digital activities are optimised for fundraising and supporter engagement.
- Monitor analytics; iterate for growth, conversion, and fundraising performance.
Management & Collaboration
- Supervise and mentor communications volunteers, consultants, and creative partners.
- Act as the Foundation’s communications bridge to WOSM, collaborating with its Global Communications and Resource Mobilisation teams to align messaging, storytelling, and donor engagement, and to ensure consistency of tone and framing across both organisations’ platforms and campaigns.
- Collaborate as a peer with the Manager Digital Engagement; work closely with the Director of Philanthropy and colleagues reporting to the Director of Philanthropy to ensure all communications and campaigns are aligned with fundraising goals.
- Manage budgets and external service providers related to communication and marketing activities.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 5 (for Senior 8+) years of professional experience in marketing and communications, or marketing and fundraising communications — preferably in the non-profit or philanthropic sector.
- Proven experience in developing and executing successful fundraising communication strategies and campaigns.
- Strong storytelling, copywriting, and content development skills.
- Experience managing digital marketing channels, including social media, websites, and email marketing.· Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
- Fluent in English (written and spoken).
Desirable:
- Experience in managing communications within multi-entity or federated organisational structures.
- Experience managing digital marketing channels, including social media, websites, and email marketing.
- Experience working in international organisations or foundations.
- Knowledge of philanthropy, donor engagement, and corporate partnerships.
- Additional language skills (especially German or French).
- Familiarity with youth development, education, or World Scouting.

Summary of employment terms and conditions
The Foundation offers a range of tangible and intangible working benefits. This is a full-time position with the option to work 80%, based on an open-ended contract with a three (3) to six (6) month probationary period.
If employed in Switzerland:
- A full contract under Swiss law is based on 40 hours of work per week.
- Working irregular hours, including some weekends and/or official holiday days, will be expected.
- The position is, in principle, based in Kandersteg, Switzerland. However, working remotely in Switzerland is also an option.
- If working remotely is agreed, the successful candidate will need to work at least one (1) working day a week in the Kandersteg office or at least three (3) consecutive working days in the Kandersteg office (Switzerland) each month.
- Eligible candidates have the right to work in Switzerland (you are either a Swiss national, you already possess a Swiss EU B or C permit, or you are eligible to obtain a Swiss EU B permit).
- The position will require some travel.
- Employment with the Foundation includes, but is not limited to:
- 25 days of annual leave or 30 days of annual leave if the candidate is 50 or over.
- 50% coverage of your monthly health insurance premium
- The cost of a Half Fare Card in Switzerland, which gives you up to 50% discount on travel by train, bus, boat and most mountain railways.
If employed in one of the EU countries:
- Eligible candidates have the right to work in the European Union (you are either a national of one of the EU countries, or you already possess a valid working permit for the EU country in which you are based).
- The World Scout Foundation will use an “Employer of Contract” in the EU country in which the successful candidate is based and eligible to remain. A competitive pension plan will be offered in the country of employment.
- A full contract based on the maximum number of working hours legally set in that country, but not exceeding 40 working hours per week.
- Working irregular hours, including some weekends and/or official holiday days, is expected.
- The successful candidate will need to work at least three (3) consecutive working days in the Kandersteg office in Switzerland each month.
- The position will require some international travel, in addition to the monthly travel to Kandersteg.
- Employment with the Foundation includes, but is not limited to:
- 25 days of annual leave or 30 days of annual leave if the candidate is 50 or over.
