Observability Engineer

Job Description

As an Observability Engineer, you will take on hands-on engineering role with real influence on the evolution of our observability landscape. You design, implement and operate modern observability solutions that ensure transparency, reliability and performance of our IT services across cloud and on-premises environments.

This role combines deep technical ownership with exposure to modern observability standards and cloud technologies. You will work closely with experienced platform, architecture and service management teams and collaborate with our ServiceNow team to technically integrate observability signals and alerts into Service Now Event Management (ITOM).

While your focus remains hands-on engineering, platform operation, and continuous improvement, you will also actively contribute to strategic topics such as observability strategy, roadmap definition and platform evolution, while remaining strongly rooted in implementation and day-to-day operations.

  • Engineer, operate and continuously improve observability platforms as a service for infrastructure, platform and application teams;

  • Implement and maintain telemetry collection for metrics, logs and traces using open standards such as Prometheus and OpenTelemetry;

  • Design and operate scalable telemetry pipelines, including collection, processing, enrichment and routing of observability data;

  • Build and maintain dashboards, alerts and service level indicators that support both operational teams and service owners;

  • Integrate observability platforms with IT service management solutions, event management, and automation workflows;

  • Support migration from legacy monitoring platforms to modern observability solutions;

  • Troubleshoot complex performance and availability issues across distributed systems;

  • Collaborate closely with application teams, service owners and platform stakeholders, providing consultative guidance and observability best practices to improve observability coverage and signal quality;

  • Contribute to the definition and evolution of observability standards, best practices and guidelines;

  • Contribute input to observability strategy, roadmap planning and technology evaluation;

  • Create and maintain operational documentation, runbooks, and onboarding guides.

Requirements

  • Proven hands-on experience as an Observability Engineer, Monitoring Engineer or similar technical role;

  • Practical experience with open standards and ecosystems such as Prometheus, OpenTelemetry and related tooling;

  • Experience designing and operating telemetry pipelines for metrics, logs, and traces;

  • Experience with observability in modern distributed systems and cloud native architectures;

  • Experience with LLM observability, including monitoring, tracing, and quality signals for AI or ML based workloads;

  • Experience migrating from existing monitoring platforms to new observability platforms is a strong plus;

  • Experience with cloud platforms, especially Microsoft Azure;

  • Experience with on-premises environments, particularly Microsoft based virtualized infrastructures;

  • Experience with scripting and automation using tools such as PowerShell, Bash, JSON or YAML;

  • Experience deploying Observability solutions / platform as IaC (Terraform);

  • Good understanding of IT service management processes and event driven operations is a plus;

  • Strong problem-solving skills and a structured, analytical mindset;

  • Ability to collaborate effectively across infrastructure, platform, application and architecture teams;

  • Proactive mindset with a strong willingness to learn and continuously improve;

  • Fluent English verbal and written communication skills. German is a plus.
