Your tasks

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student in the field of advanced microbiome analysis eager to make a meaningful impact on further developing the microbiome into a highly useful biomarker for clinical diagnostics. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in microbiome analysis using genomics technologies and integrate multi-OMICs data to monitor outcomes of patients suffering from auto immune disease. This interdisciplinary position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate closely with clinicians and biomedical researchers as well as with scientists from two diagnostic companies. The project is funded by the Innosuisse and will be carried out in collaboration with the University of Bern and two diagnostic companies. The working place will be at the FHNW new Campus Muttenz, just outside Basel, Switzerland.

  • Further develop our advanced microbiome metagenomics pipeline
  • Integrate multi-Omics data for a meaningful readout (metabolite measurements will be generated by our collaboration partners at FHNW), feature extraction, and statistical interpretation
  • Contribute to validation of dysbiosis and metabolic profile shifts from the gut microbiome clinical analysis
  • Generate better insights in the coupling of IBD and microbiome
