This is a 12 month contracting starting latest by June 2026 with strong chance of extension (with possibility to extend for up to five years) based in Basel, Switzerland (50% home office offered).
The DBA will work in a small and diverse DBA Team of 4 x DBAs responsible for administration of the Oracle database infrastructures, and Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL. The new hire will work on a mix of project and operational related work in an enterprise environment, with a main focus on Oracle but also supporting migration of some applications onto Postgres.
Responsibilities will include:
- Provide standardised templates and configurations for MS SQL, Oracle, and PostgreSQL deployments.
- Support adoption of modern database technologies, including containerised database solutions.
- Backup / restore operations
- Monitoring and alert management
- Performance analysis and tuning
- Automate routine database tasks (e.g., provisioning, monitoring, patching) using tools like Ansible and OpenShift.

You will possess as many of the following skills as possible:
- Deep domain expertise in managing and administering enterprise database systems, including Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL.
- Experience with containerised database technologies and platforms, such as RedHat OpenShift.
- Strong knowledge of database performance tuning, security, and backup/recovery strategies.
- Proficiency in Linux system administration, including scripting (Bash, Python) and automation in enterprise environments.
- Demonstrated experience with automation tools such as Ansible and Terraform to streamline database deployment and management.
- Experience with DevOps practices, emphasizing automation, reusability, and collaboration to enhance database operations and project delivery.
- Fluency with CI/CD tools and code management solutions (e.g., Git), particularly for managing database infrastructure and deployment tasks.
- Understanding of IT infrastructure technologies, including Data Centre technologies, networking, and virtualisation, to support database integration into hybrid cloud environments.
- Ability to explore domains beyond current areas of expertise and write clear system and user documentation in English
Nice to have:
- Experience with scheduling tool e.g. ControlM
- Familiarity with modern authorization concepts, such as OAuth and token-based authentication, for secure database access.
