HSE & Chem Safety Specialist (m/f/d)

Job description:

Role purpose

Providing expert Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) leadership within research and laboratory operations, with a focus on chemical safety excellence. The HSE & Chem Safety Specialist (m/f/d) is responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive HSE initiatives, ensuring regulatory compliance, and cultivating a strong safety culture. The position plays a crucial role in maintaining operational continuity through effective risk management and the advancement of safety initiatives across laboratory environments.

Accountabilities

  • Partnering with leadership to elevate HSE standards and drive safety culture
  • Leading proactive HSE and security initiatives to minimize operational risks
  • Implementing continuous improvement programs and developing comprehensive training solutions
  • Ensuring consistent application of HSE best practices through training, coaching, and auditing
  • Overseeing chemical and general waste management systems
  • Conducting regular HSE inspections across facilities and laboratories
  • Managing incident investigation processes, including root cause analysis and lessons learned
  • Facilitating cross-site and cross-functional HSE knowledge sharing
  • Delivering HSE and risk assessment training to new employees
  • Leading workplace risk assessments for new equipment, processes, and facilities

Required profile:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related studies
  • Preferably several years of experience in HSE role, including exposure to chemical/laboratory environments
  • Demonstrated experience implementing HSE programs and managing risks
  • Experience with safety management systems and audit processes
  • Track record of influencing safety culture and driving behavioural change
  • Proficiency in English
  • Strong knowledge of HSE, HSE management systems and risk assessment methodologies
  • Knowledge of chemical safety and hazardous materials management
  • Understanding of relevant HSE legislation and compliance requirements
  • Proficiency in incident investigation and root cause analysis
