Requirements:
- Provide scientific and operational oversight of external CROs and internal breeding facilities to ensure high-quality delivery and compliance.
- Develop and implement optimized breeding strategies focusing on genetic stability, cost efficiency and timelines while aligning with 3R principles (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement).
- Act as primary contact for external vivarium partners and manage vendor relationships.
- Troubleshoot phenotype drift, health status deviations and breeding challenges.
- Serve as internal subject matter expert for the generation of new transgenic mouse lines using advanced genetic technologies.
- Define and standardize official nomenclature for newly generated lines in line with MGI and international guidelines.
- Maintain and review genotype documentation and molecular validation data such as NGS, Southern Blot and qPCR.
- Monitor welfare of experimental cohorts and define humane endpoints.
- Assess unexpected phenotypes in newly generated lines.
- Establish and implement housing and care standards for outsourced breeding partners.
- Collaborate closely with therapeutic area scientists to support early phenotypic characterization and validation of model utility.
Competences:
- PhD in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in mouse genetics and colony management.
- Proven track record in generating and validating transgenic mouse models.
- Strong knowledge of breeding strategies and colony optimization aligned with 3R principles.
- Familiarity with FELASA guidelines and animal welfare legislation.
- Experience managing external vendors or CRO relationships.
- Solid understanding of molecular validation techniques including NGS, qPCR and Southern Blot.
- Fluent English required. German is a plus.
