Scientist-Mouse Genetics
About the Role
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in the generation and validation of sophisticated transgenic mouse models. You will act as a strong advocate for the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement), driving optimized breeding strategies that ensure animal welfare, genetic stability, and scientific excellence.
In this highly cross-functional role, you will serve as the key interface between external breeding partners, internal vivarium operations, and therapeutic area teams - turning complex genetic concepts into robust, well?characterized experimental cohorts that support drug discovery and development.
Tasks & Responsibilities
· Provide high-level oversight of external CROs and internal breeding facilities to ensure operational excellence.
· Develop and implement optimized breeding strategies focusing on quality, timelines, cost efficiency, and genetic stability, aligned with the 3Rs.
· Serve as primary point of contact for external vivarium managers, resolving issues such as phenotype drift or health status deviations.
· Act as internal expert for the generation of new mouse lines using modern genome engineering techniques.
· Define and standardize official nomenclature for newly generated lines in alignment with MGI and international guidelines.
· Maintain detailed records of genotyping and molecular validation data (e.g., NGS, Southern blot, qPCR).
· Monitor health and welfare of experimental cohorts, define humane endpoints, and support assessment of unexpected phenotypes.
· Develop and implement housing and care standards for contract?bred animals at partner facilities.
· Collaborate with therapeutic area experts to support initial phenotypic characterization and evaluate model utility.
Your Qualifications
· PhD in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or related field
· 3+ years hands-on experience in mouse genetics and colony management
· Familiarity with FELASA guidelines and animal welfare legislation
· Proven track record in generating mouse models
· Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple external vendor relationships
· Fluent English (written & spoken); German is an advantage
If this opportunity resonates with your background and career goals, apply today and become part of an innovative research environment driving the next generation of therapeutic solutions.
