Nanosurf AG (www.nanosurf.com) is a leading provider of innovative atomic force and scanning tunneling microscopes (AFM and STM). Our Swiss-made products and services are trusted by professionals worldwide to help them measure, analyze, and present 3D surface information. Our scanning probe microscopes excel through their compact and elegant design, their easy handling, and their absolute reliability.
To extend our R&D team in a cutting-edge product development project, we are looking for a
Senior System Development Engineer
The project aims at the development of a measurement system for the atomic-scale characterization of graphene and 2D materials, and its launch to market. A new prototype has to be characterized for its performance under the supervision of our experienced engineering team and in close collaboration with our university partners. In a successive prototyping round, the existing concept has to be improved and refined in order to turn it into a competitive product. A solid product management will have to be developed for product launch and care during its entire lifecycle.
Your background: Candidates should have several years of experience in the design, development, construction, and characterization of measurement instrumentation. A good understanding of atomic force microscopy (AFM) or of cantilever-based measurement instruments and electronics is of special importance. You should have a solid knowledge of mechanics, electronics and optics. Acquaintance with CAD, LabVIEW and basic programming skills are helpful as well. You have already built an AFM or a cantilever-based sensing system. From this experience, you know the key suppliers, competitors, and performance demands of high-end systems. As a highly talented do-it-yourselfer, you know how to get complex systems to perform well. You are talented in the lab and know how to perform systematic and high-quality measurements.
Your background can be in physics or engineering, preferably at the PhD level. You are or have been active in the AFM or related community with publications and conference contributions. You have a solid scientific knowledge in the fields of material science, surface science, and 2D materials research. You are quick in understanding scientific phenomena and concepts, even if they are outside your field of research. You communicate well in English and preferably in German as well, and you have a talent to cooperate with leading research groups in the field.
What we offer: You will get a key-position with a lot of freedom in R&D and product management at Nanosurf. You will be the project manager of an enabling technology that forms the basis of a new product family. You will work together with scientists and engineers at partner groups at universities and at Nanosurf to develop new products and do scientific research with them.
