Head of Competence Center Automation

Main Duties

The Head of Competence Center (CC) Automation bears the global responsibility for the Automation competence (standardized solutions) and is in the lead to bundle all automation related activities. He "owns" the organization with headcount structure, P&L, BS, CF and growth strategy.

  • Definition and Implementation of growth strategies for the area of Automation (standardized solutions) by anticipating trends and futures demands
  • Implementation of a product-, client-, and market-portfolio, which is aligned with the global strategy of Global Marketing, Sales & Services and Development
  • Implementation of the products & services pricing strategy, marketing & communication activities for the CC Automation in close collaboration with the global PM and CorCom
  • Responsible for the structure and organization of the CC Automation and appropriate delegation of tasks and authorities
  • Managing cooperation partners and acquired automation companies
  • Leading of all business activities (strong focus on productivity) in accordance with overall business objectives, business plan and annual budget as well as instructions given by the Group
  • Continuous monitoring and control of ongoing business, assessment of the risks and opportunities and rapid intervention to significant under-performance
  • Thorough understanding of income statements / balance sheets / cash flow and internal control principles.
  • Strong cost management / operating margin skills


  • Strong leadership, able to devise and communicate a clear vision for the future of engineering practices and their pertinent differentiation potential
  • Demonstrates business sense and grasps opportunities
  • Ability to serve as influencer or change agent to process optimization and support cultural change
  • Able to drive the team to beat targets and expectations through coaching and persuasiveness
  • Experience in interacting with different functions, nationalities and characters
  • Proven results creating and implementing strategies that drive operational development and efficiency
  • Experience in production and operation best practices, standards and procedures
  • Technical and/or economic studies (Master's degree in Engineering or Business Administration)
  •  A minimum of 3 years in a similar position, ideally in production of machine tools (investment goods)
  • Fluent written and oral German and English
