In this role, the VP of Engineering will direct strategic product and service engineering development in line with the company's strategic direction and growth objectives.
Responsible for all aspects of the company’s engineering product development / service engineering (maintenance and modernization) activities, mainly product and service planning, design, development and engineering of solutions.
The Vice President of Engineering will focus on the structuring and operation of the product development engineering organization as a cohesive unit; the conceptualizing and day-to-day management of simultaneous projects; the delivering of manufacturable designs to agreed specifications (compliant with regulatory and quality standards) within time and budget constraints, and the fostering of innovative solutions to customer needs.
Additionally, this leader will inspire an internal and external engineering network while possessing the ability to have a strong technical vision.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
As a key hands-on member of the management team, strategically leads the engineering organization in bringing innovative products and solutions, including the application of advanced materials and innovative solutions.
Partners with cross-functional stakeholders to drive the execution of the product/solutions roadmap and to support existing and prospective customers.
Ensures that the company keeps up with technology evolutions by frequent interaction with industry and regulatory leaders.
Works closely with business development /sales team to support the value proposition needed to meet our customer needs.
Validates technical issues in tenders preparation then project execution (validate design changes, interfaces with suppliers, management of external engineering companies, etc.)
Performs planning of all product/solutions including the analysis, testing and production releases as well as the certification processes.
Ensures that products are designed for specific needs, and provide all technical comfort to Management. Controls the technical documentation preparation for all projects and the execution of the agreed plans.
Ensures that objectives are achieved and projects completions are within budget and time frame.
Identifies, selects and manages outsourced engineering partners to build our offers / execute our projects. Manages their execution through regular progress meetings / design reviews.
Supports key root cause investigations and implements corrective and preventive actions.
Works in close coordination with Sourcing to develop a strong supplier panel and to optimize costs.
Acts as main technical point of contact with customers to prepare projects specifications. Reviews and challenges technical proposals.
Develops and implements procedures and methods to ensure quality standards are met and maintained.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, plus a minimum of 15 years applicable work experience leading an engineering function
Knowledge and experience
International Engineering experience in the transportation industry a plus. Railway industry highly desired
Proven track record of designing and implementing engineering and service solutions in emerging countries a plus
Experience in planning and execution of engineering within industrial manufacturing and maintenance
Experience in applying Lean Fundamentals to engineering linked to manufacturing and maintenance
Proven experience in innovation, product and project management
Technical ability to trade-off multiple, complex , highly interdependent variables and make timely decisions
Considered as a subject matter expert in the application of standard materials, components and services
Decisive, hands-on leader open to innovation
Communicator with the ability to influence, develop and maintain relationship at all levels
Ability to articulate a technical vision and an implementable strategy to achieve results
