The School of Applied Linguistics, located in Winterthur, is the only dedicated linguistics school in a Swiss university of applied sciences. Nearly 200 staff work in the school's four activity areas – bringing a wide range of practical and scientific skills and experience to bear in the fields of teaching, continuing education, research & development and consultancy. Sound scientific research lies at the heart of the teaching they provide in BA and MA programmes and in continuing education courses in the institutes within the School.
As support for the Translation Studies research area in the IUED Institute of Translation and Interpreting, we are inviting applications for the following position commencing 15 February 2018.
Your duties will include:
planning and carrying out translation process research and other research projects
documenting and archiving data and research literature
writing proposals to acquire funding for new research projects
providing supervision to junior researchers and students
assisting in and teaching translation and translation theory courses on our BA and/or MA programmes
You possess a PhD or equivalent in Translation Studies or Applied Linguistics with a focus on translation, and have solid experience in empirical research, data analysis, and dissemination of research findings. In addition to your readiness to become involved with the research currently being done in Translation Studies at our institute, you are interested and independent enough to explore and develop other areas as well. You are flexible, have good people skills, and are able to work both independently and as part of a team. You have very high active and passive competence in German and English as well as good knowledge of at least one other Swiss language. Relevant teaching experience in a university environment at BA and MA level as well as professional translation experience would be distinct advantages.
We offer interesting work, a stimulating environment, attractive conditions, and involvement with an interdisciplinary multilingual team working on real-world problems faced by language professionals. If you are looking for a challenging position in higher education and would like to be part of a dynamic, research- and practice-oriented team, please upload your complete application package as a pdf file (i.e. cover letter, C.V. and supporting documents) to our online application platform for the attention of Denise Castro, HR Consultant, Winterthur.
