The ETH Zürich Competence Center for Materials and Processes (MaP) is a multidisciplinary scientific network fostering cross-disciplinary collaborations in research, education and outreach to other academic institutes and industry, in the broad field of materials, processes and manufacturing. MaP is currently hiring a Project Manager to support its executive office as the central coordination hub, starting from 1 March 2018 or earlier on agreement.
Project Manager (80-100%)
We are seeking an individual who is highly motivated to manage and develop projects within the MaP portfolio of activities, including, for instance, academic courses, workshops, symposia and lectures. As a project manager, the person is keen on applying creative and innovative approaches to support community building and multi-stakeholder collaborations across a broad range of themes relevant for advanced materials, processes and manufacturing thereof. With a flair for communication and marketing matters, our new team member is excited about and committed to strengthen and expand MaP's academic and industrial network as well as to enhance further the visibility of collaborative achievements that emerge from among the ETH Zürich research community in Materials and Processes.
The successful candidate has an educational background in any of the disciplines covered in MaP (a higher graduate degree - PhD/MSc - is advantageous) and/or brings along relevant work experience while being knowledgeable/interested in the broad area of Materials and Processes. Given the requirement to work across disciplines, sectors and cultures, the candidate must have excellent social and organisational skills, as well as the ability to work in a motivated, responsible, resourceful and resilient manner. Strong practical project management skills are essential, from conceptualisation to planning and effective implementation, along with financial management, evaluation and reporting. Ideally, the candidate has already gained some hands-on experience in outreach, communication and marketing campaigns, and should have organised activities/events in an academic environment before. Fluency in English and German is required.
We offer a dynamic work environment with a high degree of freedom of design in project implementation and a lot of opportunities for an individual with commensurate qualifications, a can-do attitude, and a proactive and creative mindset, to further her/his professional goals. For the first instance, the position is limited to 1 year, with the possibility of extending the contract.
