Financial Accountant

BASF Intertrade AG is active in the trading of petroleum, petrochemical and related products. As the global trading organization of the BASF Group, the company is a major player in the global raw materials markets.

As a Financial Accountant, you will play a key role in our Finance team. Working closely with colleagues, you will support the Director Finance in delivering operational, regulatory, and statutory tasks across Financial Accounting & Reporting, Internal Controls, and Budgeting.

You will ensure high-quality financial processes and contribute to the continuous improvement of systems and controls within a dynamic international environment.

Your responsibilities:

• Manage all regular accounting activities, including accounts payable and receivable, fixed assets, and journal entries
• Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities under Swiss GAAP (OR) and IFRS (e.g. accruals, intercompany and bank reconciliations, inventory valuations, and disclosures)
• Post the daily margining process and coordinate with counterparties, including dispute management
• Prepare monthly VAT returns and provide day-to-day VAT support to traders and operators
• Ensure the smooth operation and further development of financial systems and related IT interfaces

Your profile:

• Degree in business administration or a comparable qualification in Finance and Accounting
• Knowledge of derivative accounting in a commodity trading environment is an advantage
• Digitally savvy, with experience using Power BI or similar tools to independently create management-ready insights and visualizations
• Excellent command of English; German is an advantage
• A team-oriented, resilient, and flexible individual with a high level of initiative and analytical thinking
