About the role:
The client is looking for a highly motivated Molecular Biology Lab Technician MSc to support and expand the development of biocatalytic processes across the company. As part of the Development team you will join the Protein Engineering group to unlock the next breakthroughs in Biocatalysis. The team's success will have a direct impact on the sustainability of the future productions processes of the company. The position is a perfect opportunity for you as enthusiastic scientists to apply your own expertise in an exciting and innovative pharmaceutical environment.
Key responsibilities:
- Plans and executes genetic manipulation and directed evolution research
- Analyzes sequences and contributions of mutations to phenotype and performs/troubleshoots experiments involving use of PCR, cloning, transformation, and recombinant gene expression in automated high throughput format
- Investigate the feasibility of applying a variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential innovations, processes or products
- Utilizes and projects substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories in area of expertise
- Communicate the results including thorough interpretation efficiently
Must Haves:
- Lab Technician (apprenticeship) or BSc/MSc level with relevant experience in molecular biology, preferably in the area of protein biochemistry
- Knowledge and skills to conduct molecular biology experiments, interpret data, and suggest improvements
- Basic understanding of microbiology
- Solid hands-on experience on cloning and recombinant protein expression
- Fluent in English
- Ready to work in international and multidisciplinary teams
- Open minded personality and “can do” attitude
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required
Nice to haves:
- Knowledge of German/French is an advantage
- Experience in enzymology and biotransformation of chemicals; knowledge of chemical composition, properties and processes is useful
- Hands on experiences in generating genetic libraries is a strong plus
- First experiences with automated systems is a plus
- Familiarity with fermentation is desirable
- Understanding of protein engineering is important
- Familiarity of library analysis via next-generation sequencing approaches is a plus
