This role is a Senior Communications Manager position in the Roche Partnering (RP) Communications team. We deliver key aspects of internal and external communications relating to Roche Partnering business objectives which are primarily to help Roche attract the best scientific collaborators or partners for any in- or out-licensing deal, or company acquisition. We are also responsible for internal communications to enable RP’s strategic delivery, support employee engagement as well as driving leadership communications across RP.
This role reports into the Head of RP Communications (as part of Group Communications at Roche) and has a dotted line relationship to Director of Science Communications at Genentech for U.S. event and media engagement activities. This position may require international travel up to 40%.
Key roles and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Development and implementation of communication plans to support deal and alliance activities
Preparation of communication materials to support a deal announcement for Roche, either for proactive, or reactive use e.g. Roche press release (in collaboration with Group Media Relations), Q&A, key message document, and any associated stakeholder management within Roche.
Stakeholder and process management for any communications by a third party regarding a deal e.g. handling all Roche review processes, guidance to third parties on Roche guidelines for press releases, and stakeholder management with the third party.
Delivery of any communications counsel or materials for on-going alliances between Roche and a third party.
Preparation and delivery of any internal communications regarding any deals, acquisitions or alliances.
Development and implementation of external communication plans to promote Roche and attract the best partners
Preparation and maintenance of communication materials to support the presentation of Roche and Roche’s partnering needs for use across multiple channels (e.g. scientific and partnering congresses, on-line, via social media etc).
Providing counsel and communications training to Roche Partnering senior leaders to be strong spokespeople for multiple audiences.
Preparation of the RP global media strategy and building/maintaining strong trade media links to enable plan delivery in collaboration with Group Media Relations and Genentech Corporate Relations.
Delivery of all RP-related content for use on Roche’s corporate channels
Development and implementation of internal communication plans to help Roche Partnering deliver business objectives
Preparing executive communication plans for the Head of Roche Pharma Partnering.
Delivering key communication activities to support RP employee engagement.
Ownership, maintenance and oversight of RP internal communication channels.
Development of strong networks across Roche communications communities to enable aligned communication strategies for attracting the right partners internally and externally.
Collaborate closely with Genentech Corporate Relations, who manage U.S. media and lead communications for deals involving the Genentech Research & Early Development group.
Who you are
You have a Bachelor’s degree or relevant certification in Communications, Public Relations (or related field); alternatively you have a scientific education with very strong communication experience and background. You also have significant healthcare industry experience and a passion for science, deal-making, external innovation and creative business models. You possess excellent inter-personal skills and are comfortable working in a matrixed multicultural environment. Additionally you bring the following skills and competencies:
At least 7 years of experience in communications with a focus on global external audiences, especially media, investors, and biotech/partnering community
A deep knowledge of healthcare, Pharma or Biotech industries
Expert understanding of communications, content and channel strategies and experience in the development of strategic communication programs
Strong influencing skills as well as high professional competency to provide counsel to senior leaders on communication approaches and personal styles
Excellent writing skills and creative thinking to be able to translate complex topics into simple, engaging materials for multiple audiences
Strong influencing and networking skills to build collaborative relationships in a global matrix
Excellent English language skills (spoken and written); German is an advantage
