Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct a literature search on reaction conditions
  • Perform reactions on a laboratory scale (mg to multi g) according to known procedures
  • Monitor reaction progress using TLC, LC-MS, etc.
  • Interpret reaction monitoring data and take appropriate action
  • Purify reaction products using standard techniques e.g. (automated) column chromatography, prep. HPLC, crystallization or distillation
  • Perform compound analysis (e.g. TLC, LC-MS, 1H and 13C NMR, etc.)
  • Interpret NMR spectra
  • Document practical work using electronic lab journal
  • Perform general lab duties

Candidate's Requirements

  • Apprenticeship as a laboratory technician or equivalent education specialized in organic synthesis or BSc or MS diploma of a 'Fachhochschule' or 'University of Applied Sciences' in synthetic organic
    chemistry or analytical chemistry
  • Experience in preparative organic synthesis to carry out reactions on a laboratory scale according to known procedures
  • Be familiar with modern methods to purify and characterize organic compounds (e.g. column chromatography, automated column chromatography, HPLC, LC-MS, NMR, GC, etc.)
  • Willingness to learn new skills and techniques
  • Ability to plan and accurately document practical work
  • Basic computer skills
  • Technical and instrumentation skills
  • Problem-solving attitude
  • Fluent in German, good knowledge of English
  • Well-organized, flexible in work assignment and work schedule
  • Hands-on attitude and ability to work efficiently and independently
  • Good communication and team-working skills
  • Essential skills required to work in multicultural environment
