The IT Services and Consulting Team (ITSC) at the Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering (D-BSSE) at the ETH is seeking per December 2016 a
IT Help-desk officer
The successful candidate will be part of ITSC in Basel. ITSC provides customer-oriented IT services for the academic and administrative staff of the D-BSSE in cooperation with the central services of the ETH Zurich. The role provides 1st/2nd level support, focusing on Apple Mac clients. The D-BSSE operates a demanding mixed platform environment, so Windows and some Linux client support will also be involved. The role includes a mixture of technical software and hardware tasks. For example, serving customers at our Service Desk, supporting requests by telephone and email via a ticketing system, user training, supervision of beamers, conference systems, printing and VoIP telephone systems. Technical aspects of the work include OS building and configuration via build-management systems, deployment and assisting in the lifecycle management of Mac and Windows client systems, inventory management, user account management, computer hardware modifications and fault diagnosis, software installations and updates, and network cable patching.
We seek individuals with demonstrable experience in IT Support of Mac client environments and PC architecture, ideally in a domain-controlled environment. You will be familiar with general networking concepts (e.g. TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, etc). The following interests or experiences will also be beneficial: Windows support, Linux familiarity, experiences in Mac management systems (such as Absolute Manage or Reposado); working in a scientific environment. The ideal candidate will be motivated to develop in these areas and to deal with new technologies. You will have also a genuine interest in supporting people, good self-organisational skills, a communicative team approach, dedication to reliability, and service-delivery professionalism. Since you will be working in an international environment, good language skills are essential in both English and German. An interesting, varied and responsible job in a pleasant, well-coordinated and motivated team.
