PhD Student Position in Neuroimmunology, Theodor Kocher Institute, University of Bern

In the group of Prof. Britta Engelhardt there is an opening for a qualified and highly motivated indivdual aiming to pursue a PhD thesis in the field of neuroimmunology.

Using in vitro blood-brain barrier models and transgenic mouse in vivo models the SNSF funded project aims to specifically address the cellular and molecular mechanisms of the migration of different T cell subsets across the brain barriers during immunosurveillance and neuroinflammation employing advanced live cell imaging technologies. 

The successful candidate has a master degree in the life sciences, a dedicated interest in brain barrier research and immune cell trafficking using high end microscopy techniques.  In addition the candidate is expected to have a high motivation in pursuing a team oriented research effort.

The position is available starting from January 1st, 2017. The TKI offers an international state-of-the-art laboratory environment. The PhD student will be enrolled in the interfaculty Graduate School for Cellular and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Bern (www.gcb.unibe.ch). Excellent training possibilities will additionally be available through the swissuniversities funded ProDoc „Cell Migration“ (www.cell-mig.ch) and the Microscopy Imaging Center (www.mic.unibe.ch). In addition the PhD student will be interacting with our national and international collaboration partners in this project.
